TruLight vs Dazzl Lighting: The Full Breakdown
Dazzl is a real competitor with a real reputation in Texas. We saw their light and their track in person, then spent a day going through everything they publish. The gap is not in how the two look on a roofline. It is in what you can actually verify before you sign.
How We Did This Comparison
There is no video for this one, so here is exactly where the information came from. Two sources, both checkable.
We handled the product. Dazzl exhibited at the Austin home show on August 22 and 23, 2026, with a lit sample and a section of track on the table. The light body and the track profile are the same style used by several other brands in this category. That is a visual identification of the style, not a teardown, and we are not going to claim a chip or a voltage we did not measure.
We read what they publish. On August 24, 2026 we went through the Dazzl homepage, all seven service pages, the FAQ, the warranty and terms pages, and five of their spec-focused blog posts.
They publish more than most companies in this category, and it is worth saying so plainly. Their Permanent LED Lighting page and their FAQ both state an IP67 rating and a 50,000-hour diode life, and their warranty terms are clear. Those are real answers to real questions.
What is missing is the other half of the spec sheet: the LED chip, the LEDs per node, the system voltage, the wire gauge, and the wiring type. Those are the numbers that decide what the light actually looks like on your house and how the run behaves over time, and we could not find any of them stated anywhere on their site.
Here's the Bottom Line
Both companies install a color-matched aluminum channel under the soffit that disappears in daylight, and both publish the durability numbers that matter in Texas: IP67 sealing and a rated diode life. Where they part ways is the light itself. TruLight publishes the chip, the LED count, and the voltage. Those are the specs that decide whether a system can produce a true pure white, and they are the ones you will not find on Dazzl's site.

Dazzl publishes IP67, a 50,000-hour diode rating, and their warranty, and those are real answers. What they do not publish is the LED chip, the LEDs per node, or the system voltage, which is where two systems that look alike stop being alike.
6 LEDs per node
TruLight runs three RGB plus three full-size warm white, which is what makes a true pure white possible. Lights built in this style are typically RGBWW, three RGB plus a quarter-chip warm white. That is our read of the category, not a Dazzl-published figure, and it is marked as an estimate in the table.
Who owns the app
TruLight built and maintains its own app. The Dazzl Lights app appears to run on a white-label platform: its own App Store screenshots show the SurpLife interface and a screen titled "Symphony Controller." That matters for who can fix a problem you report.

† True Warm White: Both systems produce a warm white. Lights in this class are RGBWW: three RGB diodes plus a quarter-chip warm white. TruLight uses three full-size warm white LEDs instead, so the white is brighter and carries further. Worth seeing side by side at night before you assume they match.
† True Pure White: This is the real split. A quarter-chip warm white is enough for a warm glow but not enough to drive a clean pure white. TruLight blends all six LEDs, three RGB plus three full warm white, to get there.

What they do not publish anywhere is the LED chip, the LEDs per node, the system voltage, the wire gauge, or the wiring type. We checked their homepage, all seven service pages, the FAQ, the warranty page, the terms page, and five spec-focused blog posts on August 24, 2026.
So the daggered values are our best estimate for that missing half, and we want to be straightforward about where it comes from. Dazzl showed a lit sample and a section of track at the Austin home show on August 22 and 23, 2026. The light body and the track profile are the same style used across a whole category of permanent lighting, and the systems we have handled in that category consistently use these specs. That is a pattern, not a teardown. We have not opened a Dazzl light and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
Any of these could be wrong, and only Dazzl can settle it. If they publish real numbers, or a homeowner sends us a spec sheet, we will update this table and say what changed. Until then, treat the daggered rows as what to ask about rather than what to assume.

What LED Chip and Voltage Does Dazzl Use?
They do not say, and this is the one place their spec sheet stops short. Dazzl publishes IP67 sealing, a 50,000-hour diode rating, UL-listed components, a wind-rated aluminum channel, and their warranty terms. What they do not publish anywhere is the LED chip, the number of LEDs per node, or the system voltage.
That gap matters because those three numbers are what separate two systems that look identical in a brochure. IP67 tells you the light survives the rain. It tells you nothing about what colors it can make.
TruLight runs the UCS7604, a 4-in-1 RGBW chip with a dedicated warm white channel, on a 48V system with 6 LEDs per node, three RGB and three full-size warm white. Lights built in this category are typically RGBWW on a WS2811 class chip: three RGB diodes plus a single quarter-chip warm white. That is our read of the category rather than a Dazzl-published figure, which is why those rows carry a dagger in the table above. That quarter chip is why a light in this class can show you a warm glow but not a true pure white. You do not have to take our word for the chip difference. Google “WS2811 vs UCS7604” and read what comes back.
System voltage matters for a practical reason. On a higher-voltage system, power only needs to enter the run in a few places. Lower-voltage systems need far more injection points across a long roofline, which means more wire, more connections, and more places for a Texas summer to find a weak seal.

Is the Track the Same?
Visually, close. Both are extruded aluminum channel, color-matched to the fascia, mounted below the soffit so the hardware disappears in daylight. We saw the Dazzl track at the Austin home show and the profile is the same style several brands in this category use.
The channel is the part everyone gets roughly right. What varies is what sits inside it and how the run is powered and wired. That is the part Dazzl does not describe, and it is the part you live with for the next decade.
Is the Dazzl App Custom?
It carries their name and their icon. Dazzl does not say who built it. Our read, from their own public App Store screenshots, is that it runs on SurpLife, a white-label platform that a number of lighting brands ship under their own branding. You can check the same screenshots yourself without installing anything, and judge it for yourself.
- Their own screenshots show the SurpLife honeycomb menu, and one screen is still titled “Symphony Controller”, which is the generic controller name, not a Dazzl name.
- The menu includes a “Fun Games” tile inside a permanent outdoor lighting app, because the platform also runs cabinet lights, strips, and bulbs.
- The house in the app preview is stock illustration with a picket fence, not a Dazzl install and not a Texas home.
What the platform difference means, feature by feature
The SurpLife column describes the SurpLife platform, which we identified from Dazzl's own App Store screenshots. Dazzl does not publish which platform they run, so treat this the same way as the daggered rows above: our identification, not their statement.

None of this stops the lights turning on, and plenty of people are happy with a white-label app. It does decide who can fix a problem you report. When the platform belongs to somebody else, a missing feature or a bug on your roofline is not your installer’s to solve.
What Dazzl Does Well
A comparison page that pretends the other company is bad at everything is not worth reading, so here is the honest part.
Dazzl has earned a genuinely strong service reputation. As of August 2026 their Google listing holds a 5.0 average across nearly 200 reviews, and the owners answer reviews personally, usually the same day. That is real work and it reflects real customers who were happy. They also publish more of their hardware detail than most companies in this category, which we would rather see than not.
They handle the HOA architectural submission for homeowners, which is a real headache to take off someone's plate. Our argument is not that they run a bad business, because by every outside signal they run a good one. It is narrower than that: a great install crew does not change what is inside the light, and the three specs that decide what the light can do are the three they do not publish.
Straight From Dazzl's Own Blog
This is the best buying advice on their website, and we agree with all of it. Use it on every company you talk to, including us and including them.
“Ask for the IP rating, in writing. Should be IP67 or higher.”
“Don't accept “commercial grade” as an answer. Push for the actual spec sheet.”
“Ask about diode hour rating. Should be 50,000.”
They pass their own test on the first and third of those. IP67 and 50,000 hours are both published, in writing, on their site. Credit where it is due, because plenty of companies in this category publish neither.
The second one is where we would push. A full spec sheet includes the chip, the LEDs per node, and the system voltage, and those are the numbers that decide what the light can actually do. Ask them. Ask us too. Ours are in the table above.
TruLight vs Dazzl Lighting in San Antonio
San Antonio homeowners cross-shopping Dazzl and TruLight are usually comparing two good-looking rooflines, which is exactly why the spec sheet matters. Stone and stucco elevations show color temperature honestly, and three full-size warm white LEDs read differently at night than a single quarter-chip one, which is what puts a true pure white within reach. Long single-story elevations also need a clear plan for where power enters the run.
