TruLight vs Bosso: A San Antonio Homeowner's Guide
Full disclosure before anything else: I own the TruLight dealership serving San Antonio. I sell one of the two brands in this article and I have an obvious financial bias, so treat everything here as an interested party's argument rather than a neutral review. I have not tested Bosso's product and I am not going to pretend otherwise. What I can offer is a way to organize the comparison, plus the exact documents to request from both companies. Separate the software from the metal
I find it useful to separate the software demonstration from the installed hardware. The demo is about software, and the long-term consequences are about hardware.
Software is the app, the zones, the presets, the voice control, the automations. It is genuinely useful, it is the part that gets demonstrated on a phone at your kitchen island, and it is also the part that can be improved, patched, redesigned or discontinued long after your install is finished. Every brand in this category is subject to that, mine included.
Hardware is the diode package, the housing, the wire, the power supplies, and the installation itself. That is what gets mounted to your fascia and stays there. If the hardware is wrong for your house, no software update fixes it. So evaluate the two layers separately, and notice where the public information on each one runs out.
The software layer: what Bosso states
Bosso's homepage describes app control, zones, voice or AI commands, music synchronization, hundreds of preset patterns, 16 million colors, and integrations with Alexa, Google, Siri and Control4. It also describes professional permanent installation. Those statements are Bosso's, taken from bosso.biz, and any Bosso dealer should be able to demonstrate each one on a live system.
Two notes on how to read a feature list like that, and they apply to our list as well as theirs. First, 16 million colors is standard arithmetic for three eight bit channels rather than a point of separation. Second, third party integrations depend on platforms that the lighting manufacturer does not own. Alexa, Google, Siri and Control4 all change their own requirements over time. Ask both companies what happens to integration support if a platform changes, and whether continued support carries any subscription or fee.
The hardware layer: what TruLight states
Our system runs at 48 volts and is low voltage. Each RGBW node holds six LEDs, three RGB plus three dedicated warm white. The published light rating is 100,000 hours. Everything mounts in a color matched aluminum track that we install professionally, and our current terms are at /warranty.
The dedicated warm white deserves a sentence of explanation, because it is a hardware decision that shows up every night. If you expect to use warm white often, compare it on finished homes after dark. A dedicated white diode produces that white directly, rather than blending it out of the red, green and blue channels. Bosso's homepage does not state how its fixtures generate white, so I will not characterize their approach. Ask their dealer plainly whether the fixture contains dedicated white diodes, and ask to see warm white running on a finished house after dark instead of on a screen.
I do not have Bosso's voltage or warranty duration either. I could not verify those figures on the cited public page, so ask the dealer for current written specifications.
Daylight appearance on limestone, stucco and tile
The lights are off for most of the hours you own them. If your neighborhood runs exterior modifications through architectural review, the daytime read of the track is the part that gets evaluated, and it is also what you see every time you pull into the driveway.
Limestone, stucco and clay tile each behave differently. Stucco fascia and trim usually gives you a fairly clean line to work with. Limestone reads warmer and less uniform, so a track color that disappears on one house can be visible on the next. Tile roofs introduce edge conditions that flat composition roofs do not, and where the track sits relative to the tile edge affects both the look and the light throw.
Neither website can answer this for your specific elevation. What both dealers can do is show you their track in daylight, in the actual finish they would install, against material similar to yours. Ask for that. Also ask what the written warranty says about the housing finish, fading and corrosion, since those are frequently covered differently from the LEDs.
Complex rooflines and zone planning
If your house breaks into four or five distinct visual planes, a main gable, a lower entry, a wing over the garage, a courtyard wall, sometimes a casita, zoning is what lets those planes be controlled independently. Both Bosso and TruLight describe zone capability.
The useful question is how zones are implemented and how many your particular house ends up with once the design is drawn. Ask each bidder to mark the proposed zones on a photo or sketch of your home, then ask whether that count is limited by the controller, by the wiring plan, or by nothing at all. Ask whether zone boundaries can be changed later without pulling material off the roofline. Those answers vary by system and by installer, and they are worth more than a preset count.
Power and run design, without the shortcut claims
Long or segmented rooflines raise the same electrical question every time: how far can a run go before brightness and color shift at the far end, and where does the plan add power injection to prevent it.
Be skeptical of anyone who tells you a higher voltage system automatically requires fewer injection points. That is not a rule you can apply from a spec sheet. The real answer depends on wire gauge, total load, run distance, the controller, and the manufacturer's published limits, and those factors work against each other. The only way to know is to see the design for your house. Ask both bidders to produce it: power supply locations, injection points, longest run, and the manufacturer limit that governs that run.

Run that table against us too. The rest, particularly the run design and the zone plan, is specific to your house and belongs in your quote.
Where the public information ends
Bosso's homepage is a thorough description of a control experience and says less about the electrical and mechanical specifics, while our published facts cover the hardware and leave the design details to the individual quote. Neither of those is a scandal. It just means a website comparison cannot finish this decision for you.
Two written documents from each company will finish it: the current warranty and the design for your address. Ask both of us for both. If a company hesitates on either one, take the hesitation seriously.
